A corporation must understand and exploit its internal and external strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities. Knowledge as an intangible ingredient is recognised as the most valuable asset that supports real competitive advantage, and investments in knowledge and key people provide better returns than the returns on tangible assets. Knowledge management in the Arab business communities is not common and presenting the main components, constraints and strategies of that valuable asset might help in promoting management efforts to enhance overall performance. This paper introduces a comprehensive overview of the main knowledge issues. These issues include knowledge types, measurement attempts, importance as a strategic asset, knowledge management styles, challenges, approaches and interrelationships with culture norms and information technology. In addition, the paper discusses various impediments of knowledge management applications.
