Objet: [Ica-l] Establishment of a National Archive in the United Arab Emirates

Posted on behalf of David McGlennon (NCDR); apologies for cross-posting

The National Center for Documentation & Research (NCDR) was established in 1968 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with a mandate to document the history of the nation. In the past 40 years, the Center has accumulated an extensive collection of documents, maps, photographs and other historical items from international and national sources.
The NCDR will soon be given the additional responsibilities of the national government archive under draft Law currently with Government. To develop its capacity as a national archive, the NCDR is establishing a Register of qualified individuals and organizations that are interested in providing consulting services during 2009.

Subject Areas
1) Strategic Planning & Performance Management
2) Organizational Structure
3) Core Competencies & job descriptions
4) Physical Infrastructure (Archival facilities)
5) Technology Infrastructure
6) Electronic Records Management & Digital Preservation
7) Preservation & Conservation (physical records)
8) Archival law and regulations
9) Archival policy and procedures
10) Public programs

Expression of Interest
Organizations and individuals interested in being included in the Register should provide a cover letter that explicitly identifies the Subject Areas that they wish to be considered for. Organizations should provide a concise description of their capacity as well as brief CVs of the persons offered for consultancy services.
Individuals should provide a current CV highlighting their relevant expertise. In addition, individuals should state their availability for short (1-3 weeks) and/or longer term assignments (up to 3 months). Opportunities may also exist for longer appointments and availability or interest in these should be noted. Fluency in Arabic or English is essential, and bi-lingual individuals are particularly encouraged to register.
Enquiries should be directed by email to Dr David McGlennon, Director of Strategic Planning & Development, <dbd@cdr.gov.ae>. Expressions of Interest should be emailed to Ms Nassem Al Jefri <Nassem@cdr.gov.ae> by December 20th 2008. Consultancy services are expected to commence in February 2009.
