This module discusses management concepts before Islam and during Prophet Mohamed’s period. It also discusses the nature of Islamic management Aims · Explain the social ,economic and management conditions of Arabs living in Jahiliyya ( the pre- Islamic period) · Describe the basic principles of Islamic religious, social & cultural teachings as proclaimed in the Holy Quran and Sunnah ( sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad PBUH)· Identify the main characteristics of management during the time of the inspired leadership of the Prophet and the Orthodox caliphs through the Umayyad and the Abbasid periods. Teaching MethodsDuration : 16 weeks, 48 hours in totalLectures : 32 hours, 2 per weekTutorials : 8 hours, 2 per monthSeminars : 8 hours, 2 per month Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to :1. Acquaint the students with the comprehensive and integrative nature of Islamic management through analytical treatment of the basic management concepts of Islam and deductive treatment of the basic assumptions derived from the true teachings of Islam refuting the erroneous misconceptions propagated by certain parties in the light of the recent developments on the international stage.2. Define management in modern terminology : the four functions of managers, namely planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
